"Notes & Sources: These poems comprise the first 12 sections of a longer work entitled The Clock Maker’s Memoir, which is a meditation on the ways in which time is reified, quantified, and metaphorized as personal (memory), public (history), graphic (memoir), natural (the movement of water, shadows), mechanical (clocks, calendars), and so on. Many of these sections involve the child’s conception of time, since both the child at play and the clock maker at work are invested in imaginative relationships between material and conceptual realities." |
